Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इदम् अत्यद्भुतम् श्रुत्वा सर्वेषाम् नो महामुने ।
कौतूहलम् महत् जातम् किम् इदम् साधु कथ्यताम् ॥ ॥३-११-९॥
Idam atyadbhutam śrutvā sarveṣām no mahāmune । Kautūhalam mahat jātam kim idam sādhu kathyatām ॥ ॥3-11-9॥
Translation
"O great sage, hearing this exceedingly wonderful sound, a great curiosity has arisen in all of us. What is this? O holy one, please tell us."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे महामुने! यह अत्यंत अद्भुत (ध्वनि) सुनकर हम सभी को महान कौतूहल हुआ है। यह क्या है? हे साधु! कृपा करके बताइए।"
English Commentary
Rama expresses the collective astonishment of the group ('sarvesham no'). Using polite imperatives like 'Sadhu kathyatam' (O holy one, please tell), Rama demonstrates the etiquette of inquiry. He categorizes the phenomenon as 'Atyadbhutam' (exceedingly wonderful/miraculous). This validates that the sound is indeed supernatural and not just a natural forest noise, prompting a formal explanation from the sage.

श्रीराम की विनम्रता दर्शनीय है। वे मुनि को 'महामुने' और 'साधु' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। 'अत्यद्भुतम्' (अति अद्भुत) शब्द का प्रयोग बताता है कि राम भी इस घटना से विस्मित हैं। 'सर्वेषाम् नो' (हम सभी को) दर्शाता है कि सीता और लक्ष्मण भी उतने ही उत्सुक हैं। राम का प्रश्न सीधा और स्पष्ट है—वे इस रहस्य का तात्विक कारण जानना चाहते हैं।
