न अत्र जीवेत् मृषावादी क्रूरो वा यदि वा शठः ।
नृशंसः पाप वृत्तो वा मुनिः एष तथा विधः ॥ ॥३-११-९०॥
Na atra jīvet mṛṣāvādī krūro vā yadi vā śaṭhaḥ । Nṛśaṃsaḥ pāpa vṛtto vā muniḥ eṣa tathā vidhaḥ ॥ ॥3-11-90॥
Translation
A liar, a cruel person, a deceitful one, a malicious one, or one of sinful conduct cannot live here; such is the nature of this sage.

यहाँ झूठ बोलने वाला (मृषावादी), क्रूर, कपटी (शठ), नृशंस या पापी व्यक्ति जीवित नहीं रह सकता; क्योंकि ये मुनि (अगस्त्य) ऐसे ही (प्रभावशाली) हैं।
English Commentary
This verse defines the ethical eligibility for residing in the ashram. It acts as a spiritual filter: liars (Mrishavadi), cruel (Krura), and deceitful (Shatha) individuals are existentially incompatible with the energy of the place. The phrase 'cannot live here' suggests that the intense purity (Sattva) generated by Agastya burns away impurity. It implies that the ashram is protected not by walls, but by Truth (Satya). For Rama, this is a reassuring confirmation of his own righteousness—only the virtuous can approach Agastya, and they are doing so successfully.

यह अगस्त्य के तपोबल का 'नैतिक रक्षा कवच' (moral force field) है। यहाँ भौतिक नियमों से अधिक नैतिक नियम चलते हैं। 'न जीवेत्' (जीवित नहीं रह सकता) एक कठोर चेतावनी है—अधर्म यहाँ टिक ही नहीं सकता। यह पापियों के लिए मृत्युतुल्य है और पुण्यात्माओं के लिए स्वर्ग। राम परोक्ष रूप से यह भी कह रहे हैं कि यदि हम यहाँ सुरक्षित हैं, तो इसका अर्थ है कि हम धर्म के मार्ग पर हैं। यह श्लोक ऋषि की न्यायप्रियता और उनकी उपस्थिति की शुचिता (purity) को सर्वोच्च स्तर पर ले जाता है। अगस्त्य का व्यक्तित्व ही सत्य की कसौटी है।
