तम् ददर्श अग्रतो रामो मुनीनाम् दीप्त तेजसम् ।
अब्रवीत् वचनम् वीरो लक्ष्मणम् लक्ष्मिवर्धनम् ॥ ॥३-१२-२२॥
Tam dadarśa agrato rāmo munīnām dīpta tejasam |
Abravīt vacanam vīro lakṣmaṇam lakṣmivardhanam ॥3-12-22॥
Translation
Rama saw him (Agastya) in front, possessed of glowing splendor among the munis. The hero (Rama) spoke these words to Lakshmana, the enhancer of prosperity.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम ने अपने आगे, मुनियों के बीच में प्रदीप्त तेज वाले अगस्त्य को देखा। तब वीर राम ने शोभा (समृद्धि) को बढ़ाने वाले लक्ष्मण से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Rama spots Agastya immediately due to his 'Dipta tejasam'—blazing radiance. Even amidst a crowd of ascetics, Agastya stands out like a flame. Rama turns to Lakshmana, referred to here as 'Lakshmivardhanam' (one who increases prosperity/glory). This epithet is touching; even in the forest, stripped of royal wealth, Lakshmana is the source of Rama's richness and well-being. Rama points out the sage to share the moment of discovery, acting as the elder brother guiding the younger one to recognize spiritual greatness.

राम ने अगस्त्य को तुरंत पहचान लिया क्योंकि वे 'दीप्त तेजसम्' थे—तपस्या की अग्नि से उनका शरीर चमक रहा था। शिष्यों की भीड़ में भी सूर्य समान तेजस्वी होने के कारण वे अलग दिखाई दे रहे थे। राम यहाँ लक्ष्मण को संबोधित करते हैं, जिन्हें 'लक्ष्मिवर्धनम्' (लक्ष्मी या शोभा बढ़ाने वाला) कहा गया है। यह विशेषण इसलिए भी उपयुक्त है क्योंकि लक्ष्मण की सेवा और उपस्थिति राम की शोभा बढ़ाती है। राम का उत्साह यहाँ स्पष्ट है; वे अपने छोटे भाई को वह दृश्य दिखाना चाहते हैं जिसकी प्रतीक्षा उन्हें थी।
