Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्त्वा महाबाहुः अगस्त्यम् सूर्य वर्चसम् ।
जग्राह आपतत् तस्य पादौ च रघुनन्दन ॥ ॥३-१२-२४॥
Evam uktvā mahābāhuḥ agastyam sūrya varcasam |
Jagrāha āpatat tasya pādau ca raghunandana ॥3-12-24॥
Translation
Speaking thus, the mighty-armed scion of Raghu (Rama) grasped the feet of Agastya, who possessed the splendor of the sun.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहकर महाबाहु रघुनंदन राम ने सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी अगस्त्य के चरणों को (पास जाकर) पकड़ लिया (प्रणाम किया)।
English Commentary
The physical action corresponds to the internal reverence. Rama, described as 'Mahabahu' (mighty-armed warrior), humbles himself before the spiritual power of Agastya, described as 'Surya varchasam' (radiant like the Sun). The phrase 'Jagraha... padau' (grasped the feet) indicates a Sashtanga Namaskar or a deep touching of the feet, symbolizing complete surrender of ego. This meeting of the greatest warrior and the greatest sage sets the stage for the transfer of divine weapons later; the vessel must be empty (humble) to receive the nectar.

दर्शन होते ही राम की प्रतिक्रिया अत्यंत विनम्र है। 'महाबाहुः' (विशाल भुजाओं वाले) क्षत्रिय वीर होते हुए भी, वे 'सूर्य वर्चसम्' (सूर्य जैसे तेज वाले) ब्राह्मण ऋषि के चरणों में झुक जाते हैं। 'जग्राह' (पकड़ लिया) शब्द प्रगाढ़ भक्ति और समर्पण को दर्शाता है; यह केवल औपचारिक स्पर्श नहीं था, बल्कि चरणों को कसकर पकड़ना था। रघुकुल की परंपरा (रघुनंदन) ही बड़ों का आदर करना है। यहाँ शक्ति (राम) ज्ञान और तप (अगस्त्य) के समक्ष नतमस्तक है, जो भारतीय संस्कृति का मूल मंत्र है।
