प्रतिगृह्य च काकुत्स्थम् अर्चयित्वा आसन उदकैः ।
कुशल प्रश्नम् उक्त्वा च आस्यताम् इति सोऽब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-१२-२६॥
Pratigṛhya ca kākutstham arcayitvā āsana udakaiḥ |
Kuśala praśnam uktvā ca āsyatām iti so'bravīt ॥3-12-26॥
Translation
Having received Kakutstha (Rama) and honored him with a seat and water, and having asked after his welfare, he (Agastya) said, "Please sit."
हिंदी अनुवाद
मुनि ने ककुत्स्थ कुल नंदन राम का स्वागत किया और आसन तथा जल (अर्घ्य) से उनका सत्कार करके, कुशल-क्षेम पूछा और कहा - "बैठिए"।
English Commentary
Agastya reciprocates with formal hospitality appropriate for a distinguished guest. He 'received' (Pratigrhya) Rama, implying a formal welcome ritual. The offerings of 'Asana' (seat) and 'Udakaih' (water for washing feet and sipping) are standard Vedic hospitality rites (Madhuparka). After the physical comfort is addressed, he inquires about their well-being ('Kushala prashnam'). Only then does he invite them to sit ('Asyatam'). This sequence—welcome, physical comfort, well-being, seating—shows Agastya’s meticulous adherence to the Dharma of a host.

अब अगस्त्य मुनि की ओर से प्रतिक्रिया आती है। 'प्रतिगृह्य' का अर्थ है औपचारिक रूप से अतिथि को स्वीकार करना। उन्होंने राम को आसन और 'उदक' (पैर धोने और पीने का जल) देकर 'अर्चयित्वा' (पूजा/सत्कार) किया। अतिथि का सत्कार 'पूजा' के समान माना जाता है (अतिथि देवो भव)। कुशल-क्षेम पूछना (कुशल प्रश्नम्) शिष्टाचार का अगला चरण है। अंत में 'आस्यताम्' (विराजिए) कहकर उन्होंने राम को आसन ग्रहण करने की अनुमति दी। ऋषि ने राम को खड़े नहीं रहने दिया, तुरंत उन्हें विश्राम देने का प्रयास किया।
