इतो द्वि योजने तात बहु मूल फल उदकः ।
देशो बहु मृगः श्रीमान् पंचवटि अभिविश्रुतः ॥ ॥३-१३-१३॥
Ito dvi yojane tāta bahu mūla phala udakaḥ । Deśo bahu mṛgaḥ śrīmān pañcavaṭi abhivīśrutaḥ ॥ ॥3-13-13॥
Translation
O dear one, two yojanas from here lies a beautiful region renowned as Panchavati, abounding in roots, fruits, water, and many deer.

हे तात! यहाँ से दो योजन (लगभग 16-18 मील) की दूरी पर पंचवटी नाम से विख्यात एक सुंदर स्थान है, जहाँ बहुत से कंद-मूल, फल, जल और मृग उपलब्ध हैं।
English Commentary
Agastya introduces 'Panchavati' as the destination. By specifying 'dvi yojane' (two yojanas), he indicates a location that is accessible yet distinct from his own hermitage. The mention of 'bahu mrigah' (abundant deer) serves a dual purpose: pragmatically, it indicates resources for forest living (such as deer skin for seats/clothing), but literarily, it foreshadows the pivotal Golden Deer incident. The descriptor 'shriman' (prosperous/beautiful) assures Rama that the location is not a desolate wasteland but a vibrant ecosystem. Agastya is curating a location that balances the austerity of exile with the basic comforts provided by nature, ensuring his guests can survive 'happily' as requested.
