जटायुषम् तु प्रतिपूज्य राघवो मुदा परिष्वज्य च सन्नतो अभवत् ।
पितुर् हि शुश्राव सखित्वम् आत्मवान् जटायुषा संकथितम् पुनः पुनः ॥३-१४-३५॥
jaṭāyuṣam tu pratipūjya rāghavo mudā pariṣvajya ca sannato abhavat |
pitur hi śuśrāva sakhitvam ātmavān jaṭāyuṣā saṃkathitam punaḥ punaḥ ॥3-14-35॥
Translation
Raghava honored Jatayu, embraced him with joy, and bowed to him. The self-possessed Rama heard the friendship with his father narrated again and again by Jatayu.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राघव (राम) ने जटायु का सम्मान किया और प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उन्हें गले लगाया तथा उनके सामने नतमस्तक हुए। उस आत्मवान् (धीर) राम ने जटayu द्वारा बार-बार कही गई अपने पिता (दशरथ) के साथ उनकी मित्रता की बात सुनी।
English Commentary
Rama's reaction highlights his exemplary character and etiquette. Instead of dismissing the giant bird, he honors him, embraces him warmly, and bows in respect. This reflects the cultural value of respecting father's friends as one's own father. The term 'Atmavan' (self-possessed) suggests Rama's composure; he discerns the truth in Jatayu's words. Jatayu reiterating the friendship "again and again" shows the bird's eagerness to establish a bond. For Rama, meeting a friend of his late father in the desolate wilderness is a source of immense emotional support and joy, solidifying an alliance based on hereditary friendship.
