Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स गत्वा लक्ष्मणः श्रीमान् नदीम् गोदावरीम् तदा ।
स्नात्वा पद्मानि च आदाय सफलः पुनर् आगतः ॥ ॥३-१५-२४॥
Sa gatvā lakṣmaṇaḥ śrīmān nadīm godāvarīm tadā । Snātvā padmāni ca ādāya saphalaḥ punar āgataḥ ॥ ॥3-15-24॥
Translation
The glorious Lakshmana then went to the river Godavari. After bathing and gathering lotuses and fruits, he returned successful.

तब श्रीमान लक्ष्मण गोदावरी नदी पर गए। वहां स्नान करके और (पूजा के लिए) कमल के फूल तथा (भोजन के लिए) फल लेकर वे वापस आए।
English Commentary
After constructing the hut, Lakshmana immediately attends to the spiritual and ritualistic requirements of a new home (Griha Pravesh). He ignores his physical fatigue to go to the Godavari river. The term 'Śrīmān' (glorious) here reflects the glow of his service. He bathes to purify himself and collects 'Padmāni' (lotuses) for worship and fruits for offering/sustenance. The word 'Saphalaḥ' is a clever pun; it means "successful" in his mission, but literally also means "with fruits" (sa-phala). This shows Lakshmana’s holistic care—he provides the shelter, the food, and the ritual purity required for Rama’s well-being.

भवन निर्माण के बाद, लक्ष्मण जी अपनी शारीरिक थकान की परवाह किए बिना गृह-प्रवेश की धार्मिक विधियों की तैयारी में जुट गए। 'श्रीमान' शब्द उनकी आंतरिक शोभा और उत्साह को दर्शाता है। वे गोदावरी गए, स्वयं स्नान कर पवित्र हुए, और 'पद्मानि' (कमल) लाए ताकि नए घर में राम का स्वागत पूजा के साथ हो सके। 'सफलः' शब्द का अर्थ यहाँ केवल 'फलों सहित' (with fruits) भी है और 'कार्य में सफल होकर' (successful) भी। यह श्लोक लक्ष्मण की दिनचर्या और अनुशासन को दिखाता है—कठिन परिश्रम के बाद भी वे नित्य कर्म और ईश्वर आराधना (राम सेवा) के लिए तत्पर रहते हैं।
