स तम् रुचिरम् आक्रम्य देशम् आश्रम कर्मणि ।
हस्ते गृहीत्वा हस्तेन रामः सौमित्रिम् अब्रवीत् ॥३-१५-९॥
sa tam ruciram ākramya deśam āśrama karmaṇi |
haste gṛhītvā hastena rāmaḥ saumitrim abravīt ॥3-15-9॥
Translation
Having reached that beautiful spot for the purpose of building the hermitage, Rama, holding Lakshmana's hand in his own, spoke to the son of Sumitra.

आश्रम निर्माण के लिए उस सुंदर स्थान पर जाकर (और खड़े होकर), राम ने अपने हाथ से सुमित्रानंदन लक्ष्मण का हाथ थामकर उनसे कहा।
English Commentary
After selecting the site, Rama steps onto the land ('akramya'). The gesture of 'haste grihitva hastena' (holding hand with hand) is deeply evocative. It signifies intimacy, trust, and brotherly affection. Rama is physically connecting with Lakshmana to convey his appreciation before the hard labor of construction begins. It is a moment of quiet bonding amidst the wilderness. Addressing him as 'Saumitrim' (Son of Sumitra) acknowledges his mother's sacrifice and training, which made Lakshmana the ideal companion he is today.

स्थान का चयन करने के बाद, राम उस भूमि पर पैर रखते हैं ('आक्रम्य')। यहाँ 'हस्ते गृहीत्वा हस्तेन' (हाथ से हाथ पकड़कर) का वर्णन अत्यंत मर्मस्पर्शी है। यह राम का लक्ष्मण के प्रति स्नेह और कृतज्ञता प्रकट करने का तरीका है। वनवास के कष्टों में भाई का साथ ही सबसे बड़ा संबल है। राम का यह स्पर्श लक्ष्मण को कार्य प्रारंभ करने की ऊर्जा और आशीर्वाद देता है। 'सौमित्रिम्' संबोधन सुमित्रा के त्याग की याद दिलाता है, जिन्होंने लक्ष्मण को राम की सेवा के लिए ही वन भेजा था।
