Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रकृत्या शीतल स्पर्शो हिम विद्धाः च सांप्रतम् ।
प्रवाति पश्चिमो वायुः काले द्वि गुण शीतलः ॥ ॥३-१६-१५॥
Prakṛtyā śītala sparśo hima viddhāḥ ca sāṃpratam । Pravāti paścimo vāyuḥ kāle dvi guṇa śītalaḥ ॥ ॥3-16-15॥
Translation
The west wind, which is naturally cool to the touch, is now blowing infused with frost/snow. At this time (early morning), it feels doubly cold.

स्वभाव से ही शीतल स्पर्श वाली पश्चिमी वायु, इस समय हिम (बर्फ) से युक्त होकर बह रही है, जिससे इस काल (प्रात:काल) में यह दोगुनी ठंडी प्रतीत हो रही है।
English Commentary
Lakshmana describes the somatic experience of the wind. The west wind (paścimo vāyuḥ) is identified as naturally cool, but the season has altered its character. The term hima viddhāḥ (pierced/infused with frost) suggests that the wind carries icy particles. The mathematical quantifier dvi guṇa śītalaḥ (doubly cold) emphasizes the exponential increase in discomfort. It illustrates the biting nature of the wind in the open wilderness, which serves as a constant reminder of their lack of shelter and kingly comforts.

यहाँ वायु की प्रकृति का विश्लेषण है। पश्चिमी हवा (पछुआ पवन) को सामान्यतः शीतल माना जाता है ('प्रकृत्या शीतल स्पर्शो'), लेकिन हेमंत ऋतु में वह 'हिम विद्धाः' (बर्फ से बिंधी हुई या युक्त) हो गई है। परिणामतः उसकी शीतलता 'द्वि गुण' (दोगुनी) हो गई है। 'विद्धाः' शब्द का प्रयोग ऐसा आभास देता है मानो हवा में बर्फ के कण तीर की तरह छिपे हों जो त्वचा को भेद रहे हैं। यह श्लोक वन में असुरक्षित परिवेश में ठंड की तीव्रता को शारीरिक अनुभव के स्तर पर व्यक्त करता है।
