बाष्प संचन्न सलिला रुत विज्ञेय सारसाः ।
हिमाअर्द्र वालुकैः तीरैः सरितो भान्ति सांप्रतम् ॥ ॥३-१६-२४॥
bāṣpa saṃcanna salilā ruta vijñeya sārasāḥ |
himāardra vālukaiḥ tīraiḥ sarito bhānti sāṃpratam ॥3-16-24॥
Translation
The rivers are currently hidden by mist, their existence recognizable only by the cries of the Sarasa birds, while their banks appear with sands wet from the frost.

नदियाँ इस समय भाप (कोहरे) से ढकी हुई हैं, जिससे उनका जल दिखाई नहीं दे रहा; वे केवल सारस पक्षियों की आवाज़ से पहचानी जा रही हैं और उनके तटों की रेत ओस से गीली हो गई है।
English Commentary
This verse utilizes inference (Anumana) to describe the landscape. The visual aspect of the river is obliterated by thick mist, forcing reliance on the auditory sense—the calls of the Sarasa birds—to confirm the water's presence. This sensory shift emphasizes the density of the fog. The description of the riverbanks, wet with frost (hima-ardra), adds a tactile dimension to the imagery.
