Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रियाभिभाषी मधुरो दीर्घबाहुः अरिन्दमः ।
संत्यज्य विविधान् भोगान् आर्यम् सर्वात्मना आश्रितः ॥ ॥३-१६-३२॥
priyābhibhāṣī madhuro dīrghabāhuḥ arindamaḥ |
saṃtyajya vividhān bhogān āryam sarvātmanā āśritaḥ ॥3-16-32॥
Translation
He is a pleasant speaker, sweet by nature, long-armed (heroic), and a subduer of enemies. Having renounced various pleasures, he has taken refuge in Arya (you) with his entire soul.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे प्रिय बोलने वाले, मधुर स्वभाव वाले, लंबी भुजाओं वाले (वीर) और शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले हैं। नाना प्रकार के भोगों को त्यागकर वे सर्वात्मा (पूरे मन और आत्मा) से केवल आर्य (आप/राम) के ही आश्रित हो गए हैं।
English Commentary
This verse juxtaposes Bharata's martial prowess with his humility. Epithets like dirghabahu (long-armed) and arindama (subduer of foes) confirm he is a capable warrior, yet he chooses submission to Rama. The phrase sarvatmana ashritah (dependent with his whole soul) signifies total surrender. Lakshmana emphasizes that Bharata’s asceticism is not due to a lack of capacity to rule or enjoy pleasures, but due to a deliberate spiritual choice to center his existence around Rama.

यहाँ 'दीर्घबाहुः' और 'अरिन्दमः' जैसे विशेषण भरत के क्षत्रिय तेज और वीरता को दर्शाते हैं। लक्ष्मण यह स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि भरत का त्याग कायरता नहीं, बल्कि शक्ति है। एक शक्तिशाली योद्धा होते हुए भी उन्होंने राम ('आर्यम्') की शरण ली है। 'सर्वात्मना आश्रितः' भक्ति की वह अवस्था है जहाँ भक्त का अपना कोई स्वतंत्र अस्तित्व या इच्छा शेष नहीं रहती; उसका पूरा जीवन अपने आराध्य को समर्पित होता है। यह प्रपत्ति (पूर्ण शरणागति) का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण है।
