जितः स्वर्गः तव भ्रात्रा भरतेन महात्मना ।
वनस्थम् अपि तापस्ये यः त्वाम् अनुविधीयते ॥ ॥३-१६-३३॥
jitaḥ svargaḥ tava bhrātrā bharatena mahātmanā |
vanastham api tāpasye yaḥ tvām anuvidhīyate ॥3-16-33॥
Translation
Heaven has been conquered by your brother, the high-souled Bharata, who, even in his practice of austerities, follows your example while you are dwelling in the forest.

आपके भाई महात्मा भरत ने स्वर्ग को जीत लिया है, क्योंकि आप वन में हैं, फिर भी वे तपस्या और जीवनशैली में आपका ही अनुसरण कर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Lakshmana declares that Bharata has spiritually conquered heaven (jitah svargah) through his sacrifice. The merit of a king usually comes from ruling well or performing yajnas, but here, Bharata achieves greatness through anuvidhiyate—mimicking the penance of Rama. By aligning his lifestyle in the palace exactly with Rama’s lifestyle in the forest, Bharata transcends physical separation. This validates the idea that true devotion is not just emotional, but practical and participatory.

भारतीय संस्कृति में 'स्वर्ग' केवल मृत्यु के बाद का स्थान नहीं, बल्कि एक उच्च आध्यात्मिक स्थिति है जिसे त्याग से जीता जा सकता है। लक्ष्मण कहते हैं कि भरत ने इसे प्राप्त कर लिया है। यहाँ 'अनुविधीयते' का अर्थ है 'हुबहू नकल करना' या 'अनुसरण करना'। भरत अयोध्या में रहकर भी राम के वनवास के हर नियम का पालन कर रहे हैं। यह भ्रातृ-प्रेम का वह स्तर है जहाँ दो शरीर होते हुए भी प्राण और चर्या (lifestyle) एक हो जाती है।
