निश्चिता एव हि मे बुद्धिः वन वासे दृढ व्रता ।
भरत स्नेह संतप्ता बालिशी क्रियते पुनः ॥ ॥३-१६-३८॥
niścitā eva hi me buddhiḥ vana vāse dṛḍha vratā |
bharata sneha saṃtaptā bāliśī kriyate punaḥ ॥3-16-38॥
Translation
My resolve to dwell in the forest is indeed firm and vowed strongly; yet, tormented by affection for Bharata, my mind is made childish again.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वनवास में रहने की मेरी बुद्धि (निश्चय) दृढ़ है, किन्तु भरत के स्नेह से संतप्त (पिघलकर) होकर वह फिर से बालकों जैसी (कच्ची/चंचल) हो रही है।
English Commentary
Rama admits to a moment of emotional vulnerability. Though his will to fulfill his vow (dridha vrata) of exile is ironclad, the mention of Bharata's suffering acts as a solvent. The phrase balishi kriyate (made childish/feeble) suggests that deep emotional bonds can strip away the stoic defenses of even the most disciplined warrior. It humanizes Rama, showing that his adherence to duty is a constant struggle against his love for his family.

यह श्लोक राम के मानवीय पक्ष को उजागर करता है। राम धीर-गंभीर हैं, 'दृढ व्रता' हैं, लेकिन भरत का प्रेम उनकी इस दृढ़ता को हिला देता है। 'बालिशी क्रियते' (बच्चे जैसा बना देती है) बहुत मार्मिक अभिव्यक्ति है। जैसे एक बच्चा घर की याद में रो पड़ता है, वैसे ही राम का मन भरत की दशा सुनकर वनवास छोड़कर अयोध्या लौटने को मचलने लगता है। प्रेम की शक्ति संकल्प की शक्ति से टकरा रही है।
