प्रकृत्या हिम कोश आढ्यो दूर सूर्याः च सांप्रतम् ।
यथार्थ नामा सुव्यक्तम् हिमवान् हिमवान् गिरिः ॥ ॥३-१६-९॥
Prakṛtyā hima kośa āḍhyo dūra sūryāḥ ca sāṃpratam । Yathārtha nāmā suvyaktam himavān himavān giriḥ ॥ ॥3-16-9॥
Translation
"Naturally rich in stores of snow, and now with the sun being far away, the Himavan (Himalaya) mountain clearly justifies its true name (Possessor of Snow)."

"स्वभाव से ही बर्फ के खजाने से संपन्न और अब सूर्य के दूर चले जाने से, यह 'हिमवान' पर्वत (हिमालय) सचमुच अपने नाम को सार्थक (यथार्थ) कर रहा है।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana analyzes the etymology of the word 'Himavan' (Himalaya). Literally, it means "Possessor of Snow." He observes that while the mountain is naturally snowy ('Prakṛtyā'), in this season, with the sun far away (low intensity), the accumulation of snow makes the name 'Yathārtha' (literally true/meaningful) in the fullest sense. It shows Lakshmana’s intellectual engagement with his surroundings.

'हिमवान' शब्द का शाब्दिक अर्थ है 'वह जिसके पास हिम (बर्फ) है'। लक्ष्मण कहते हैं कि यूँ तो हिमालय पर हमेशा बर्फ रहती है ('प्रकृत्या'), लेकिन इस ऋतु में जब सूर्य दूर है, तो वहां ठंड और बर्फ इतनी बढ़ गई है कि उसका नाम 'हिमवान' पूरी तरह सत्य ('यथार्थ नामा') सिद्ध हो रहा है। यह भाषा विज्ञान और प्रकृति निरीक्षण का सुंदर मेल है।
