Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्तः तु राक्षस्या शूर्पणख्या परंतपः ।
ऋजु बुद्धितया सर्वम् आख्यातुम् उपचक्रमे ॥ ॥३-१७-१४॥
Evam uktaḥ tu rākṣasyā śūrpaṇakhyā paraṃtapaḥ |
Ṛju buddhitayā sarvam ākhyātum upacakrame ॥3-17-14॥
Translation
Thus addressed by the demoness Shurpanakha, the scorcher of foes (Rama), due to his straightforward nature, began to relate everything accurately.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राक्षसी शूर्पणखा द्वारा इस प्रकार पूछे जाने पर, शत्रुओं को संताप देने वाले (परंतप) श्री राम ने अपनी सरल बुद्धि (सत्यवादिता) के कारण सब कुछ सच-सच बताना आरम्भ किया।
English Commentary
This verse offers profound insight into Rama’s character. He is described as Paraṃtapaḥ (scorcher of enemies), implying he speaks out of fearlessness, not compulsion. The phrase Ṛju buddhitayā is key—it translates to "straightforwardness of mind" or "guilelessness." Despite facing a potential threat in a demoness, Rama does not resort to deceit or disguise. He chooses transparency. This establishes Rama as the embodiment of Satya (truth); he believes his identity and purpose require no masking, regardless of the audience.

यह श्लोक राम के चरित्र की एक बहुत बड़ी विशेषता को उजागर करता है—'ऋजु बुद्धितया'। इसका अर्थ है 'सरल बुद्धि' या 'कपट रहित मन'। राम जानते हैं कि वे एक राक्षसी से बात कर रहे हैं, फिर भी वे झूठ नहीं बोलते। वे 'परंतप' (शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले) हैं, उन्हें किसी का भय नहीं है, इसलिए उन्हें अपनी पहचान छिपाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। राजनीति या कूटनीति के स्थान पर वे सत्य और सरलता का मार्ग चुनते हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि राम का आत्मविश्वास उनके सत्य में निहित है।
