आसीत् दशरथो नाम राजा त्रिदश विक्रमः ।
तस्य अहम् अग्रजः पुत्रो रामो नाम जनैः श्रुतः ॥ ॥३-१७-१५॥
Āsīt daśaratho nāma rājā tridaśa vikramaḥ |
Tasya aham agrajaḥ putro rāmo nāma janaiḥ śrutaḥ ॥3-17-15॥
Translation
"There was a king named Dasharatha, possessing valour equal to the gods. I am his eldest son, known by the people as Rama."

"दशरथ नाम के एक राजा थे, जो देवताओं के समान पराक्रमी थे। मैं उनका सबसे बड़ा पुत्र हूँ और लोगों में 'राम' नाम से विख्यात हूँ।"
English Commentary
In keeping with Vedic etiquette, Rama introduces himself through his lineage first. He identifies as the son of Dasharatha, attributing god-like valour (tridaśa vikramaḥ) to his father, thereby establishing his high pedigree. The phrase janaiḥ śrutaḥ (heard of/known by people) is a mark of dignified humility. Rather than boasting of his own titles, he simply states that he is known to the world as Rama. It reflects a calm confidence in his reputation.

अपना परिचय देते समय राम सबसे पहले अपने पिता का नाम लेते हैं, जो भारतीय परंपरा में कुल और वंश के महत्व को दर्शाता है। वे दशरथ को 'त्रिदश विक्रमः' (देवताओं जैसा पराक्रमी) कहते हैं, जिससे उनके क्षत्रिय गौरव की झलक मिलती है। 'जनैः श्रुतः' (लोगों द्वारा सुना गया/प्रसिद्ध) वाक्यांश राम की विनम्रता और उनकी कीर्ति दोनों को एक साथ प्रस्तुत करता है; वे स्वयं को 'महावीर' नहीं कहते, बल्कि कहते हैं कि लोग मुझे राम नाम से जानते हैं।
