वीरो विश्रवसः पुत्रो यदि ते श्रोत्रम् आगतः ।
प्रवृद्ध निद्रः च सदा कुंभकर्णो महाबलः ॥ ॥३-१७-२२॥
Vīro viśravasaḥ putro yadi te śrotram āgataḥ |
Pravṛddha nidraḥ ca sadā kumbhakarṇo mahābalaḥ ॥3-17-22॥
Translation
"The hero, the son of Vishravas—if you have heard of him. And the mighty Kumbhakarna, too, who is always in a deep sleep."

"जो विश्रवा मुनि का पुत्र और महावीर है (वह रावण), यदि आपने सुना हो। और वह महाबली कुंभकर्ण भी (मेरा भाई है), जो सदा गहरी नींद में सोता रहता है।"
English Commentary
Shurpanakha continues to drop names to build her resume. She emphasizes Ravana’s lineage as the son of the sage Vishravas, hinting at their semi-divine origin. She then introduces Kumbhakarna. Interestingly, she characterizes him by his immense strength (mahābalaḥ) and his defining curse/habit—pravṛddha nidraḥ (excessive sleep). This candid description adds realism to the dialogue; even within her boast, the unique traits of her family members are acknowledged. She wants Rama to know that rejecting her means rejecting the sister of the world's most formidable warriors.

अपने परिचय को और वजनदार बनाने के लिए शूर्पणखा अपने भाइयों की विशेषताओं का वर्णन करती है। वह रावण को 'विश्रवसः पुत्रो' (विश्रवा का पुत्र) कहकर अपने उच्च ब्राह्मण-राक्षस मिश्रित कुल का संकेत देती है। कुंभकर्ण का उल्लेख करते समय वह उसकी दो मुख्य बातें बताती है—'महाबलः' (अत्यंत बलशाली) और 'प्रवृद्ध निद्रः' (हमेशा सोने वाला)। यह वर्णन बहुत स्वाभाविक है; एक बहन अपने भाइयों का परिचय देते समय उनके सबसे प्रमुख गुणों को ही गिनाएगी। वह यह स्थापित कर रही है कि उसका परिवार साधारण नहीं है, बल्कि महायोद्धाओं का समूह है।
