विकृता च विरूपा च न सा इयम् सदृशी तव ।
अहम् एव अनुरूपा ते भार्या रूपेण पश्य माम् ॥ ॥३-१७-२६॥
Vikṛtā ca virūpā ca na sā iyam sadṛśī tava |
Aham eva anurūpā te bhāryā rūpeṇa paśya mām ॥3-17-26॥
Translation
"She is deformed, ugly, and not a match for you. I alone am the wife suitable for you. Look at my form!"

"यह (सीता) विकृत (कुरूप) है, विद्रूप है और आपके योग्य नहीं है। मैं ही आपके अनुरूप पत्नी हूँ; मेरे रूप को देखिए।"
English Commentary
This verse captures the delusion caused by extreme lust and jealousy. Shurpanakha calls Sita, the paragon of beauty, Vikṛtā (deformed) and Virūpā (ugly). This creates a darkly comic irony for the reader. She asserts Aham eva anurūpā—"I alone am suitable." She believes her magical form (or simply her demoniac power) makes her the superior choice. The command paśya mām (Look at me!) indicates she is posturing, perhaps displaying her shape-shifted beauty, trying to overwrite Rama’s perception of reality with her own twisted narrative.

ईर्ष्या और मोह में अंधी शूर्पणखा को त्रिलोक सुंदरी सीता 'विरूपा' (कुरूप) और 'विकृत' दिखाई देती हैं। यह मनोविज्ञान का एक अद्भुत उदाहरण है—'सावन के अंधे को हरा ही हरा सूझता है', वैसे ही कामांध व्यक्ति को अपनी प्रतिद्वंद्वी में केवल दोष दिखते हैं। वह दावा करती है 'अहम् एव अनुरूपा' (मैं ही अनुरूप हूँ)। वह राम से कहती है 'पश्य माम्' (मुझे देखो), जिसका अर्थ है कि वह संभवतः अपने मायावी सौंदर्य का प्रदर्शन कर रही है। वह राम को यह विश्वास दिलाना चाहती है कि सीता और राम की जोड़ी बेमेल है, जबकि राम और शूर्पणखा की जोड़ी उत्तम है।
