इमाम् विरूपाम् असतीम् करालाम् निर्णत उदरीम् ।
अनेन सह ते भ्रात्रा भक्षयिष्यामि मानुषीम् ॥ ॥३-१७-२७॥
Imām virūpām asatīm karālāmt nirṇata udarīm |
Anena saha te bhrātrā bhakṣayiṣyāmi mānuṣīm ॥3-17-27॥
Translation
"I will devour this ugly, unchaste, frightful, hollow-bellied human woman along with that brother of yours."

"मैं इस कुरूप, दुश्चरित्र, भयानक और पिचके पेट वाली मानवी (सीता) को, तुम्हारे इस भाई (लक्ष्मण) के साथ अभी खा जाऊँगी।"
English Commentary
The mask falls off completely. Shurpanakha’s lust transforms into murderous rage. She insults Sita with vicious epithets like asatīm (unchaste/evil) and karālāmt (frightful/terrible). The term nirṇata udarīm (sunken-bellied) mocks Sita's slender, ascetic physique in contrast to the heavy-set Rakshasa ideal. Her solution to the "obstacle" is primal: bhakṣayiṣyāmi (I will eat her). She threatens to consume both Sita and Lakshmana to clear the path to Rama. This marks the pivotal moment where the comedy of her proposal turns into the tragedy of the upcoming conflict.

जब शूर्पणखा देखती है कि राम सीता को नहीं छोड़ रहे, तो उसका प्रेम हिंसक रूप ले लेता है। वह सीता के लिए अत्यंत अपमानजनक शब्दों का प्रयोग करती है—'असतीम्' (दुश्चरित्र/पापी) और 'निर्णत उदरीम्' (पिचके या धंसे हुए पेट वाली, जो शायद सीता की कृशता/नाजुकी का मज़ाक है)। अंत में, उसकी मूल राक्षसी वृत्ति बाहर आ जाती है—'भक्षयिष्यामि' (खा जाऊँगी)। वह बाधाओं (सीता और लक्ष्मण) को मिटाकर राम को पाना चाहती है। यह श्लोक उस भयावह घटनाक्रम की शुरुआत है जो अंततः रावण के विनाश और रामायण के युद्ध का कारण बनता है।
