Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तदा आसीनस्य रामस्य कथा संसक्त चेतसः ।
तम् देशम् राक्षसी काचिद् आजगाम यदृच्छया ॥ ॥३-१७-५॥
tadā āsīnasya rāmasya kathā saṃsakta cetasaḥ |
tam deśam rākṣasī kācid ājagāma yadṛcchayā ॥3-17-5॥
Translation
While Rama was sitting there, his mind engrossed in conversation, a certain demoness arrived at that place by chance.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब राम वहां बैठे थे और उनका चित्त बातों में लगा हुआ था, तभी एक राक्षसी 'यदृच्छया' (संयोगवश/अचानक) उस स्थान पर आ पहुंची।
English Commentary
This verse introduces the catalyst of the epic's central conflict. The phrase yadricchaya (accidentally/by chance) is philosophically significant, suggesting that destiny often arrives unannounced. Rama is distracted (katha samsakta cetasah), highlighting the vulnerability of the moment. The juxtaposition of the noble conversation with the arrival of a Rakshasi creates immediate narrative tension.

यह रामायण का एक निर्णायक मोड़ (turning point) है। 'यदृच्छया' (by chance) शब्द बताता है कि यह घटना पूर्व-नियोजित नहीं थी, बल्कि यह 'दैव' (भाग्य) का खेल है। राम का ध्यान बातों में था ('कथा संसक्त चेतसः'), इसलिए उन्होंने उसे आते हुए दूर से नहीं देखा। शांतिपूर्ण वातावरण में एक 'राक्षसी' का प्रवेश अशुभता का संकेत है। यहाँ से अरण्यकाण्ड की मुख्य कथा—संघर्ष और सीता हरण—का बीजारोपण होता है।
