समृद्ध अर्थस्य सिद्धार्था मुदित अमल वर्णिनी ।
आर्यस्य त्वम् विशालाक्षि भार्या भव यवीयसी ॥ ॥३-१८-१०॥
Samṛddha arthasya siddhārthā mudita amala varṇinī । āryasya tvam viśālākṣi bhāryā bhava yavīyasī ॥ ॥3-18-10॥
Translation
O large-eyed one of pure complexion! You should become the younger wife of that noble one (Rama), who is prosperous and whose goals are accomplished. Thus, you will be joyful and fulfilled.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे विशालाक्षी! हे निर्मल वर्ण वाली! तुम उन आर्य (राम) की छोटी पत्नी बन जाओ, जो सर्व समर्थ हैं और जिनके सभी प्रयोजन सिद्ध हो चुके हैं। ऐसा करने से तुम सुखी और कृतार्थ हो जाओगी।
English Commentary
Lakshmana continues his strategic mockery. He advises Shurpanakha to return to Rama and become his 'younger wife' (yavīyasī bhāryā). He describes Rama as Siddhartha (one who has achieved his goals) and Samṛddha arthasya (prosperous/capable), ironically suggesting that Rama is capable of managing multiple wives. The adjectives Lakshmana chooses for Shurpanakha—large-eyed and pure-complexioned—are deliberate flatteries intended to mask his disgust and manipulate her vanity. This interaction highlights the contrast between Lakshmana's sharp intellect and the demoness's gullibility, setting the stage for the conflict to escalate when she takes these sarcastic words literally.
