ततः तु सा राक्षस संघ सम्वृतम् खरम् जन स्थान गतम् विरूपिता ।
उपेत्य तम् भ्रातरम् उग्र तेजसम् पपात भूमौ गगनाद् यथा अशनिः ॥ ॥३-१८-२५॥
Tataḥ tu sā rākṣasa saṃgha saṃvṛtam kharam jana sthāna gatam virūpitā । Upetya tam bhrātaram ugra tejasam papāta bhūmau gaganād yathā aśaniḥ ॥ ॥3-18-25॥
Translation
Then, she who had been mutilated approached her brother Khara of fierce energy, who was surrounded by a band of demons in Janasthana, and fell upon the ground like a thunderbolt from the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनंतर वह विरूप की गई (शूर्पणखा) जनस्थान में राक्षसों के समूह से घिरे हुए अपने उग्र तेजस्वी भाई खर के पास पहुँचकर, आकाश से गिरे हुए वज्र (बिजली) के समान भूमि पर गिर पड़ी।
English Commentary
Shurpanakha arrives at Janasthana, the outpost of the Rakshasa empire. She approaches Khara, described as ugra tejasam (fiercely radiant/powerful). The simile used for her collapse is striking: she falls like an aśaniḥ (thunderbolt) from the sky. This foreshadows the impact of her arrival; just as a lightning strike causes fire and destruction, her arrival sets in motion the chain of events that will lead to the annihilation of Khara and his army. It dramatizes the urgency and the catastrophic potential of her grievance.

शूर्पणखा अपने भाई खर के दरबार में पहुँचती है। खर को 'उग्र तेजसम्' (भयानक तेज वाला) और राक्षसों के झुंड से घिरा हुआ बताया गया है, जो उसकी शक्ति और सत्ता को दर्शाता है। शूर्पणखा का गिरना 'गगनाद् यथा अशनिः' (जैसे आकाश से बिजली गिरती है) के समान बताया गया है। यह उपमा अत्यंत सार्थक है; जैसे बिजली गिरने पर विनाश होता है, वैसे ही शूर्पणखा का खर के दरबार में गिरना खर और उसके सेना के विनाश का कारण बनेगा। वह केवल शरीर से नहीं गिरी, बल्कि एक विपत्ति (calamity) बनकर वहाँ आ पड़ी है।
