Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अपूर्वी भार्यया च अर्थी तरुणः प्रिय दर्शनः ।
अनुरूपः च ते भर्ता रूपस्य अस्य भविष्यति ॥ ॥३-१८-४॥
Apūrvī bhāryayā ca arthī taruṇaḥ priya darśanaḥ |
Anurūpaḥ ca te bhartā rūpasya asya bhaviṣyati ॥3-18-4॥
Translation
"He is alone (has not experienced such a wife before), desires a wife, is youthful and handsome. He will be a husband worthy of your beauty."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"वह अपूर्वी (जिसने ऐसा सुख पहले न भोगा हो/अकेला) है और पत्नी का इच्छुक (ार्थी) है। वह युवा और सुंदर है। वह तुम्हारे रूप के लिए सर्वथा योग्य पति होगा।"
English Commentary
Rama continues the charade, describing Lakshmana as bhāryayā arthī (desirous of a wife) and apūrvī (unique/inexperienced). He flatters her by saying Lakshmana is the anurūpaḥ (matching/suitable) husband for her form (rūpasya). This is high irony. Rama is telling the demoness that his warrior brother, who is actually sworn to protect him and live as an ascetic, is actually looking for love. By validating her delusion that she is beautiful and desirable, he effectively passes the "burden" to his brother.

राम मजाक को अगले स्तर पर ले जाते हैं। वे कहते हैं लक्ष्मण 'भार्यया अर्थी' (पत्नी का इच्छुक) है, जो कि पूर्णतः असत्य है क्योंकि लक्ष्मण ब्रह्मचर्य व्रत में हैं। लेकिन राम का उद्देश्य शूर्पणखा को वहाँ से हटाना है। वे कहते हैं 'अनुरूपः ते' (तुम्हारे योग्य)। यह व्यंग्य है—लक्ष्मण का क्रोध और शूर्पणखा की कामुकता, या लक्ष्मण की कुरूपता (जो शूर्पणखा को सुंदर लग रही है) का मिलान। राम उसे विश्वास दिलाते हैं कि लक्ष्मण के पास जाने में ही उसकी भलाई है।
