एनम् भज विशालाक्षि भर्तारम् भ्रातरम् मम ।
असपत्ना वरारोहे मेरुम् अर्क प्रभा यथा ॥ ॥३-१८-५॥
Enam bhaja viśālākṣi bhartāram bhrātaram mama |
Asapatnā varārohe merum arka prabhā yathā ॥3-18-5॥
Translation
"O wide-eyed one, O one with beautiful hips, choose him, my brother, as your husband. Be his sole wife (without a co-wife), just as the sunlight belongs to Mount Meru."

"हे विशाल नेत्रों वाली! हे सुंदर नितम्बों वाली (वरारोहे)! मेरे उस भाई को पति रूप में भजो। जैसे सुमेरु पर्वत सूर्य की प्रभा को धारण करता है, वैसे ही तुम सौत के बिना (अकेली) उसकी पत्नी बनो।"
English Commentary
Rama concludes his referral with sarcastic flattery, addressing the grotesque demoness as Viśālākṣi (large-eyed beauty) and Varārohe (one with excellent hips). He urges her to "worship" (bhaja) or choose Lakshmana. The selling point is again asapatnā—being the sole wife, avoiding the misery of sharing a husband. The simile comparing their union to "sunlight on Mount Meru" is grandiose, elevating the absurd proposal to mock-epic proportions. Rama has successfully spun a web of words to redirect her lust.

राम यहाँ शूर्पणखा की झूठी प्रशंसा की झड़ी लगा देते हैं—'विशालाक्षि' (बड़ी आँखों वाली) और 'वरारोहे' (सुंदर कमर वाली)। यह संबोधन उस कुरूप राक्षसी के लिए स्पष्ट व्यंग्य है, पर शूर्पणखा इसे सच मान लेती है। 'असपत्ना' (बिना सौत के) शब्द का प्रयोग पुनः उसकी ईर्ष्या को शांत करने के लिए किया गया है। उपमा 'मेरुम् अर्क प्रभा यथा' (जैसे मेरु पर्वत पर सूर्य की धूप) बहुत भव्य है, जो लक्ष्मण के तेज और शूर्पणखा के उसके साथ जुड़ने को एक दिव्य (या विचित्र) संयोग के रूप में चित्रित करती है।
