Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उपालभ्य शनैः संज्ञाम् तम् मे शंसितुम् अर्हसि ।
येन त्वम् दुर्विनीतेन वने विक्रम्य निर्जिता ॥ ॥३-१९-१२॥
Upalabhya śanaiḥ saṃjñām tam me śaṃsitum arhasi । Yena tvam durvinītena vane vikramya nirjitā ॥ ॥3-19-12॥
Translation
Recovering your consciousness strictly, you ought to tell me who that ill-mannered one is by whom you were overpowered in the forest by force.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(इसलिए) धीरे-धीरे होश संभालो (चेतना प्राप्त करो) और मुझे उस व्यक्ति का नाम बताओ, जिस उद्दंड (दुर्विनीत) ने वन में अपने पराक्रम से तुम्हें हराया है।
English Commentary
After his tirade of threats and boasts, Khara returns to the immediate task. He instructs Shurpanakha to regain her composure (upalabhya saṃjñām) so she can identify the target. He refers to the attacker as durvinītena (ill-behaved/arrogant), framing the mutilation as an act of indiscipline against the Rakshasa rule. The phrase vikramya nirjitā admits that she was defeated by force/valor. This verse acts as the bridge between Khara's reaction and Shurpanakha's detailed report, shifting the focus from emotional outburst to strategic identification of the enemy.

अपनी प्रतिज्ञाएँ पूरी करने के बाद, खर व्यावहारिक मुद्दे पर वापस आता है। वह देखता है कि शूर्पणखा अभी भी घबराई हुई है, इसलिए वह उसे 'शनैः' (धीरे-धीरे) 'संज्ञाम्' (होश/चेतना) प्राप्त करने को कहता है। वह शत्रु को 'दुर्विनीतेन' (बदतमीज/दुष्ट) कहता है, क्योंकि उसने खर की बहन को छूने का साहस किया। 'विक्रम्य' का अर्थ है बलपूर्वक। खर अब कार्यवाही के लिए तैयारी कर चुका है और उसे बस एक 'लक्ष्य' (Target) का नाम चाहिए। यह श्लोक संवाद को विराम देता है और शूर्पणखा के उत्तर की प्रतीक्षा करता है, जहाँ वह राम और लक्ष्मण का परिचय देगी।
