Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति प्रतिसमादिष्टा राक्षसाः ते चतुर् दश ।
तत्र जग्मुः तया सार्धम् घना वातेरिताः यथा ॥ ॥३-१९-२६॥
Iti pratisamādiṣṭā rākṣasāḥ te catur daśa । Tatra jagmuḥ tayā sārdham ghanā vāteritāḥ yathā ॥ ॥3-19-26॥
Translation
Having been thus commanded, those fourteen Rakshasas went there accompanied by her, just as clouds driven by the wind.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस प्रकार आदेश पाकर वे चौदह राक्षस उस (शूर्पणखा) के साथ वहाँ (राम के आश्रम) गए, जैसे हवा से उड़ाए हुए बादल (तेजी से) जाते हैं।
English Commentary
This verse employs a striking simile: the demons move like ghana vateritah (clouds driven by the wind). Just as the wind directs the clouds, Shurpanakha (and her grievance) directs the demons toward their destination. Clouds often portend a storm, symbolizing the impending clash. The phrase pratisamadishtha implies they were fully briefed and ordered. Moving taya sardham (along with her) shows Shurpanakha leading the charge, eager to witness the destruction she solicited. It captures the swift, ominous movement of the death squad toward Rama’s hermitage.

यहाँ उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है। राक्षसों की तुलना 'वात-ईरिताः घनाः' (हवा से प्रेरित बादलों) से की गई है। जिस प्रकार हवा बादलों को दिशा देती है, उसी प्रकार शूर्पणखा का क्रोध और खर की आज्ञा इन राक्षसों को राम की ओर ले जा रही है। बादल अक्सर तूफान और अंधकार का प्रतीक होते हैं, जो आने वाले संकट का संकेत है। 'चतुर् दश' (चौदह) की संख्या छोटी है, लेकिन उनका वेग और उत्साह तीव्र है। यह श्लोक दृश्य को खर के दरबार से हटाकर दंडकारण्य के मार्ग पर ले जाता है।
