देव गन्धर्व भूतानाम् ऋषीणाम् च महात्मनाम् ।
को अयम् एवम् महावीर्यः त्वाम् विरूपाम् चकार ह ॥ ॥३-१९-६॥
Deva gandharva bhūtānām ṛṣīṇām ca mahātmanām । Ko ayam evam mahāvīryaḥ tvām virūpām cakāra ha ॥ ॥3-19-6॥

Who is this person of great valor among the Gods, Gandharvas, spirits, or high-souled Rishis, that has deformed you in this way?

English Commentary
Khara speculates on the identity of the attacker, listing superior beings like Devas, Gandharvas, and Rishis possessing mahāvīrya (great potency). Notably, he omits humans from this list, reflecting the Rakshasa belief that humans are merely food (bhakṣya) and incapable of such a feat. This omission underscores Khara's underestimation of the threat. He assumes only a supernatural entity could defeat his sister. This highlights the central theme of the Ramayana: the Supreme Divine acting through the humble human form to destroy evil that disregards humanity.
