चरामि सायुधो नित्यम् ऋषि मांसानि भक्षयन् ।
इयम् नारी वरारोहा मम भार्या भविष्यति ॥३-२-१३॥
carāmi sāyudho nityam ṛṣi māṃsāni bhakṣayan । iyam nārī varārohā mama bhāryā bhaviṣyati ॥3-2-13॥
Translation
"Armed with weapons, I roam here constantly, devouring the flesh of sages. This woman of beautiful hips shall become my wife."

"मैं अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से युक्त होकर ऋषियों का मांस खाता हुआ नित्य (यहाँ) विचरता हूँ। यह सुंदर नितम्बों वाली स्त्री (वरारोहा) अब मेरी पत्नी बनेगी।"
English Commentary
Viradha explicitly states his nature and diet: he subsists on 'ṛṣi māṃsāni' (flesh of sages). This sets up the ideological conflict, as Rama's mission is to protect these very sages. He then claims Sita using the epithet 'varārohā' (one with beautiful hips/waist), a classical descriptor of feminine beauty, but here it underscores his lustful intent. By declaring she will be his wife ('mama bhāryā bhaviṣyati'), he strips Rama of his status as a protector and husband, escalating the encounter from a verbal confrontation to an existential struggle for honor and survival.
