क्रोधम् उत्पाद्य नो भर्तुः खरस्य सुमहात्मनः ।
त्वम् एव हास्यसे प्राणान् अद्य अस्माभिर् हतो युधि ॥ ॥३-२०-१३॥
krodham utpādya no bhartuḥ kharasya sumahātmanaḥ । tvam eva hāsyase prāṇān adya asmābhir hato yudhi ॥ ॥3-20-13॥
Translation
Having provoked the anger of our master, the mighty Khara, you alone shall lose your life today, being slain by us in battle.

हमारे स्वामी महामना खर का क्रोध उत्पन्न करके, आज युद्ध में हमारे द्वारा मारे जाकर तुम ही अपने प्राण त्याग दोगे।
English Commentary
The demons retort with a threat based on loyalty to their lord, Khara, whom they ironically refer to as 'sumahatmanah' (great-souled/mighty). This shows their distorted worldview where the cruel Khara is revered. They assert that provoking Khara is a fatal error. The phrase 'tvam eva' (you alone/you surely) emphasizes their certainty that the outcome of the battle is a foregone conclusion in their favor. They believe their collective strength ('asmabhih' - by us) will easily overpower the lone Rama. It effectively flips Rama's earlier warning back onto him, rejecting his ultimatum with disdain.

यहाँ राक्षसों की स्वामिभक्ति और अहंकार प्रकट होता है। वे खर को 'सुमहात्मनः' (महान आत्मा वाला/शक्तिशाली) कहते हैं, जो उनकी दृष्टि में खर की महानता को दर्शाता है, भले ही वह एक राक्षस है। वे राम को धमकी देते हैं कि खर को क्रोधित करना मृत्यु को निमंत्रण देना है। 'त्वम् एव हास्यसे प्राणान्' (तुम ही प्राण त्यागोगे) में 'एव' शब्द उनके अति-आत्मविश्वास को दिखाता है—उन्हें तनिक भी संदेह नहीं है कि वे हार सकते हैं। वे राम की चेतावनी (श्लोक 10) का सीधा उत्तर दे रहे हैं कि प्राण हमें नहीं, तुम्हें त्यागने होंगे। यह संवाद युद्ध के तनाव को चरम पर ले जाता है।
