जग्राह परम क्रुद्धः चतुर्दश शिल अशितान् ।
गृहीत्वा धनुः आयम्य लक्ष्यान् उद्दिश्य राक्षसान् ॥ ॥३-२०-१९॥
jagrāha parama kruddhaḥ caturdaśa śila aśitān |
gṛhītvā dhanuḥ āyamya lakṣyān uddiśya rākṣasān ॥3-20-19॥
Translation
Extremely angry, he took fourteen arrows whetted on stone. Grasping his bow and drawing it, he aimed at those demons as his targets.
हिंदी अनुवाद
परम क्रुद्ध होकर श्रीराम ने चौदह शिला पर घिसकर तेज किए गए बाणों को ग्रहण किया। धनुष को हाथ में लेकर और उसे खींचकर (प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाकर), उन राक्षसों को लक्ष्य बनाया।
English Commentary
While Rama is usually portrayed as calm, the phrase parama kruddhaḥ (extremely angry) shows his fierce warrior aspect when provoked by evil. The technical detail śila aśitān (sharpened on stone) adds realism to the weaponry. The action of drawing the bow (āyamya) signifies the accumulation of potential energy before the release. Crucially, the verse mentions he aimed specifically at the demons (lakṣyān uddiśya), ensuring that his retaliation was controlled and targeted, rather than a chaotic response to the ambush.

श्रीराम सामान्यतः शांत रहते हैं, परन्तु अधर्म का नाश करते समय उनका 'परम क्रुद्ध' होना उनके क्षत्रिय धर्म का परिचायक है। 'शिला अशितान्' (पत्थर पर घिसकर तेज किए गए) विशेषण बाणों की मारक क्षमता को स्पष्ट करता है। धनुष की प्रत्यंचा को कान तक खींचने (आयम्य) की क्रिया उनके बल और संकल्प को दर्शाती है। यहाँ यह भी महत्वपूर्ण है कि उन्होंने भीड़ पर बाण नहीं चलाए, अपितु प्रत्येक राक्षस को व्यक्तिगत रूप से 'लक्ष्य' बनाया, जो उनकी एकाग्रता और युद्ध में अनुशासन को सिद्ध करता है।
