अपयाहि जन स्थानात् त्वरितः सह बान्धवः ।
जहि त्वम् समरे मूढान् यथा तु कुलपांसन ॥ ॥३-२१-१८॥
apayāhi jana sthānāt tvaritaḥ saha bāndhavaḥ |
jahi tvam samare mūḍhān yathā tu kulapāṃsana ॥3-21-18॥
Translation
Flee quickly from Janasthana with your kinsmen! Or, O disgrace to the family, kill those fools in battle (if you dare).
हिंदी अनुवाद
(इसलिए) अपने भाई-बंधुओं के साथ जनस्थान से शीघ्र भाग जाओ। अथवा, हे कुल कलंक! तुम (शत्रु रूपी) मूर्खों को युद्ध में मार गिराओ (यदि तुममें साहस है)।
English Commentary
Shurpanakha presents a binary choice to force Khara's hand. Option A: apayāhi (flee/retreat) with his kin, thereby admitting defeat and cowardice. Option B: jahi (kill) the enemies. She uses the epithet kulapāṃsana (disgrace to the lineage) to shame him. If he flees, he accepts this title. If he fights, he has a chance to shed it. Calling the enemies mūḍhān (fools) belittles them, implying that if Khara cannot even kill "fools," he is truly worthless. It is an ultimatum delivered with supreme contempt.

शूर्पणखा यहाँ खर को दो ही विकल्प देती है: या तो कायरों की तरह भाग जाओ ('अपयाहि'), या फिर युद्ध करो। 'कुलपांसन' (कुल को दूषित करने वाला/कुलकलंक) कहकर वह उसे धिक्कारती है। 'जहि त्वम् समरे मूढान्' (युद्ध में उन मूर्खों को मारो) एक चुनौती है। वह राम और लक्ष्मण को 'मूढ' (मूर्ख) कहती है और खर को ललकारती है कि यदि वह कुलकलंक नहीं बनना चाहता, तो उनका वध करे। यह 'करो या मरो' (Do or Die) की स्थिति पैदा करने वाला कथन है।
