मत्स्यैः पुष्पैः द्रुमैः शैलैः चन्द्र सूर्यैः च कांचनैः ।
मांगल्यैः पक्षि सम्घैः च ताराभिः च समावृतम् ॥३-२२-१४॥
matsyaiḥ puṣpaiḥ drumaiḥ śailaiḥ candra sūryaiḥ ca kāñcanaiḥ |
māṅgalyaiḥ pakṣi samghaiḥ ca tārābhiḥ ca samāvṛtam ॥3-22-14॥
Translation
It was covered (decorated) with golden motifs of fish, flowers, trees, mountains, the moon and sun, auspicious flocks of birds, and stars.

वह रथ सोने की बनी मछलियों, फूलों, वृक्षों, पर्वतों, चंद्र, सूर्य, मांगलिक पक्षियों के समूहों और तारों (की आकृतियों) से ढका (अलंकृत) था।
English Commentary
This verse details the intricate artistry of the chariot. It is embellished with motifs representing the cosmos and nature—fish, celestial bodies, mountains, and flora—crafted in gold. This imagery implies a desire for dominion over all these elements. The inclusion of 'Mangalyaih' (auspicious) birds and stars on a war chariot intended for slaughter adds a layer of irony. It reflects the Rakshasa belief in their own righteousness and glory. The elaborate decoration suggests that this vehicle is akin to a 'Vimana' (celestial craft), showcasing the advanced, albeit materialistic, civilization of the Rakshasas.

यह श्लोक रथ की कलात्मकता को दर्शाता है। रथ पर उकेरी गई आकृतियाँ—मत्स्य, पुष्प, चंद्र, सूर्य, तारे—ब्रह्मांड और प्रकृति के विभिन्न तत्वों का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं। यह संभवतः यह दिखाने के लिए है कि रथी (खर) का प्रभाव सर्वत्र है। 'मांगल्यैः पक्षि सम्घैः' (मांगलिक पक्षी) का प्रयोग विरोधाभासी है क्योंकि यह रथ मृत्यु और विनाश के लिए जा रहा है, फिर भी इसे शुभ चिह्नों से सजाया गया है। यह 'किमिदं' (Vimana-like) गुणवत्ता का संकेत देता है, जो रावण के पुष्पक विमान की याद दिलाता है। राक्षस वास्तुकला और शिल्प में अत्यंत निपुण थे, यह उसका प्रमाण है।
