राक्षसानाम् सुघोराणाम् सहस्राणि चतुर्दश ।
निर्यातानि जन स्थानात् खर चित्त अनुवर्तिनाम् ॥३-२२-२०॥
rākṣasānām sughorāṇām sahasrāṇi caturdaśa |
niryātāni jana sthānāt khara citta anuvartinām ॥3-22-20॥
Translation
Fourteen thousand extremely terrible demons, who followed the will of Khara, marched out from Janasthana.

खर के चित्त (इच्छा) का अनुसरण करने वाले चौदह हजार अत्यंत भयानक राक्षस जनस्थान से बाहर निकले।
English Commentary
The magnitude of the impending conflict is re-emphasized with the count 'Chaturdasha sahasrani' (fourteen thousand). This reiteration cements the scale of the odds stacked against Rama. The phrase 'Khara chitta anuvartinam' (followers of Khara's mind/will) highlights the absolute loyalty and discipline within the demonic ranks; they move as a single entity driven by their master's rage.
