सा प्रहृष्ट्वा वचः श्रुत्वा खरस्य वदनात् च्युतम् ।
प्रशशंस पुनर् मौर्ख्यात् भ्रातरम् रक्षसाम् वरम् ॥ ॥३-२२-६॥
sā prahṛṣṭvā vacaḥ śrutvā kharasya vadanāt cyutam |
praśaśaṃsa punar maurkhyāt bhrātaram rakṣasām varam ॥3-22-6॥
Translation
Hearing those words fall from Khara's mouth, she rejoiced, and out of foolishness, she once again praised her brother, the best of demons.

खर के मुख से निकले उन वचनों को सुनकर वह (शूर्पणखा) हर्षित हो गई और अपनी मूर्खता के कारण राक्षसों में श्रेष्ठ अपने भाई की पुनः प्रशंसा करने लगी।
English Commentary
Valmiki explicitly critiques Shurpanakha’s intellect here with the word 'Maurkhyat' (out of foolishness). She rejoices at Khara's vow of violence, failing to realize that she is instigating a conflict that will lead to her brother's destruction. Her rapid shift from insulting Khara to praising him highlights her fickle and self-serving nature. She is blinded by the thirst for revenge and lacks the foresight to see the danger Rama poses. This verse marks her as the catalyst of tragedy—her momentary happiness is based on a delusion of power, and her praise serves only to further inflate Khara’s fatal arrogance.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ शूर्पणखा की बुद्धि पर सीधा प्रहार करते हैं। 'मौर्ख्यात्' (मूर्खता से) शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। शूर्पणखा खुश है कि उसका भाई युद्ध के लिए तैयार है, लेकिन वह यह नहीं समझ पा रही है कि वह अपने भाई को मृत्यु के मुख में धकेल रही है। पहले उसने खर को धिक्कारा था, और अब प्रतिशोध का आश्वासन मिलते ही वह उसकी प्रशंसा ('प्रशशंस') करने लगी। यह उसके चरित्र की अस्थिरता और उथलेपन को दर्शाता है। उसे केवल अपने अपमान का बदला चाहिए, चाहे उसका परिणाम उसके कुल का विनाश ही क्यों न हो। उसकी यह 'मूर्खता' ही अंततः जनस्थान के विनाश का कारण बनती है।
