नील जीमूत वर्णानाम् लोक हिंसा विहाराणाम् ।
सर्व उद्योगम् उदीर्णानाम् रक्षसाम् सौम्य कारय ॥३-२२-९॥
nīla jīmūta varṇānām loka hiṃsā vihārāṇām |
sarva udyogam udīrṇānām rakṣasām saumya kāraya ॥3-22-9॥
Translation
(Khara said to Dushana) "O gentle one! Command those demons, who are the color of blue clouds, who take delight in harming the world, and who are arrogant with all their might, to move out."

(खर ने दूषण से कहा) "हे सौम्य! नीले मेघों के समान रंग वाले, संसार की हिंसा में ही विहार (आनंद) करने वाले और संपूर्ण बल के साथ उद्धत (तैयार) उन राक्षसों को कूच करने का आदेश दो।"
English Commentary
In this verse, Khara characterizes his army with vivid imagery. Describing them as 'Nila jimuta varnanam' (color of blue clouds) evokes a sense of darkness and impending storm, symbolizing their terrifying presence. The phrase 'Loka himsa viharanam' is particularly revealing; it indicates that for these demons, violence is not merely a tool for war but a 'Vihara'—a sport or pastime. They delight in the suffering of the world. Interestingly, Khara addresses his commander Dushana as 'Saumya' (gentle one), a customary honorific that contrasts sharply with the brutal nature of the orders being given and the violent character of their race.
