नेदुः बलस्य अभिमुखम् ज्वाल उद्गारिभिः आननैः ।
कबन्धः परिघ आभासो दृश्यते भास्कर अंतिके ॥३-२३-११॥
neduḥ balasya abhimukham jvāla udgāribhiḥ ānanaiḥ |
kabandhaḥ parigha ābhāso dṛśyate bhāskara antike ॥3-23-11॥
Translation
The creatures howled facing the army, their mouths seeming to belch fire. Near the sun, a headless trunk (Kabandha) resembling an iron club was visible.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे मांसाहारी जीव सेना के सामने मुख करके ज्वाला उगलते हुए से चिल्लाने लगे। सूर्य के समीप परिघ (लोहे की छड़) जैसा दिखने वाला कबन्ध (बिना सिर का धड़) दिखाई देने लगा।
English Commentary
The terror escalates from earthly sounds to celestial horrors. The animals are described as seemingly vomiting fire, adding a supernatural element to their cries. More significantly, a 'Kabandha' (headless torso) is seen near the sun. In Indian astrology and epic literature, seeing a headless trunk near the sun is a catastrophic omen indicating the death of the supreme leader or massive decapitation in the army. The sun represents the king or leader; the Kabandha eclipsing or appearing near it signifies the eclipse of Khara's power. The comparison to a 'parigha' (iron club) reinforces the theme of blunt, crushing violence that awaits the army.

अपशकुनों की तीव्रता यहाँ बढ़ जाती है। जानवरों के मुख से ज्वाला का निकलना या ऐसा प्रतीत होना अत्यंत घोर अपशकुन है। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और डरावना संकेत है 'भास्कर अंतिके' (सूर्य के पास) 'कबन्ध' का दिखना। कबन्ध एक सिरकटा धड़ होता है। सूर्य, जो तेज और जीवन का प्रतीक है, उसके पास मृत्यु के प्रतीक (कबन्ध) का दिखना यह बताता है कि खर का तेज सूर्य की भांति अस्त होने वाला है और सेना का सिर कटने वाला है। 'परिघ' (गदा या मुगदर) जैसा आकार युद्ध की क्रूरता को दर्शाता है। यह खगोलीय घटना (celestial phenomenon) पृथ्वी पर होने वाले संहार का प्रतिबिंब है।
