तस्मिन् क्षणे बभूवुः च विना पुष्प फलैः द्रुमाः ।
उद्धूतः च विना वातम् रेणुः जलधर अरुणः ॥३-२३-१४॥
tasmin kṣaṇe babhūvuḥ ca vinā puṣpa phalaiḥ drumāḥ |
uddhūtaḥ ca vinā vātam reṇuḥ jaladhara aruṇaḥ ॥3-23-14॥
Translation
At that very moment, the trees were stripped of their flowers and fruits. Without any wind, dust resembling the color of reddish clouds rose up.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसी क्षण वृक्ष अपने फूलों और फलों से रहित हो गए। बिना हवा के ही बादलों की तरह धूसर और लाल रंग की धूल उड़ने लगी।
English Commentary
The immediate biotic response to Khara's aggression is the shedding of fruits and flowers by the trees, symbolizing immediate barrenness and loss of progeny/prosperity for the Rakshasas. The verse also highlights a physical anomaly: dust rising without wind ('vinā vātam'). This spontaneous rising of dust, colored like reddish clouds ('jaladhara aruṇaḥ'), creates a suffocating atmosphere. It suggests the earth is agitated from within. The redness of the dust again alludes to blood. These signs collectively portray a world turned upside down, where natural laws are suspended in the face of the adharma (unrighteousness) represented by Khara's march.

खर के अभियान के प्रभाव से वनस्पति जगत भी अछूता नहीं रहा। भरे-पूरे वृक्षों का अचानक फल-फूल विहीन हो जाना श्री और समृद्धि के नाश का सूचक है। यह अपशकुन बताता है कि राक्षस जाति अब फल-फूल नहीं पाएगी, उनका वंश नाश होने वाला है। दूसरी ओर, 'विना वातम्' (बिना हवा के) धूल का उड़ना एक अप्राकृतिक घटना है। धूल का रंग 'जलधर अरुणः' (लाल बादलों जैसा) बताया गया है, जो पुनः रक्त और हिंसा की ओर संकेत करता है। बिना कारण धूल का उड़ना और दृष्टि को धुंधला करना यह बताता है कि खर की बुद्धि पर अज्ञान का पर्दा पड़ चुका है।
