प्राकम्पत भुजः सव्यः स्वरः च अस्य अवसज्जत ।
स अस्रा संपद्यते दृष्टिः पश्यमानस्य सर्वतः ॥३-२३-१७॥
prākampata bhujaḥ savyaḥ svaraḥ ca asya avasajjata |
sa asrā saṃpadyate dṛṣṭiḥ paśyamānasya sarvataḥ ॥3-23-17॥
Translation
His (Khara's) left arm trembled, and his voice faltered. As he looked around, his vision became clouded with tears.

उसका (खर का) बायां हाथ फड़कने लगा और स्वर धीमा (रुंध) गया। सब ओर देखते समय उसकी आँखों में आँसू भर आए।
English Commentary
The bad omens shift from the environment to Khara's own person. In Hindu omenology (Nimitta Shastra), the twitching of the left side of the body is highly inauspicious for men (whereas the right side is auspicious). Khara's left arm trembling signifies his impending loss of strength and victory. His voice faltering ('svaraḥ avasajjata') implies a loss of command and vitality before the battle even begins. The involuntary tearing up of his eyes ('sa asrā') while looking around suggests that his body senses the approaching end, grieving for itself even as his mind remains clouded by arrogance. These are somatic symptoms of destined doom.

अब अपशकुन बाहरी वातावरण से हटकर खर के शरीर में प्रकट हो रहे हैं। शकुन शास्त्र के अनुसार, पुरुषों के लिए बाएं अंगों का फड़कना अत्यंत अशुभ माना जाता है। खर का 'सव्यः भुजः' (बायां हाथ) कांपना पराजय का सूचक है। साथ ही, युद्धघोष करने वाले सेनापति का स्वर 'अवसज्जत' (बैठ जाना या लड़खड़ाना) उसके आत्मविश्वास और प्राणशक्ति के क्षीण होने को दर्शाता है। उसकी आँखों में बिना कारण आँसू आना ('स अस्रा') यह संकेत है कि उसकी अंतरात्मा या शरीर आसन्न मृत्यु को पहचान चुका है, भले ही उसका अहंकारी मन इसे स्वीकार न करे। यह प्रकृति द्वारा दी गई अंतिम शारीरिक चेतावनी है।
