Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न चिंतयामि अहम् वीर्यात् बलवान् दुर्बलान् इव ।
तारा अपि शरैः तीक्ष्णैः पातयेयम् नभः तलात् ॥३-२३-२०॥
na ciṃtayāmi aham vīryāt balavān durbalān iva |
tārā api śaraiḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ pātayeyam nabhaḥ talāt ॥3-23-20॥
Translation
Out of valor, I do not worry about these omens, just as a strong man does not worry about the weak. I can even bring down the stars from the sky with my sharp arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अपने पराक्रम के कारण इन अपशकुनों की चिंता उसी प्रकार नहीं करता, जैसे एक बलवान व्यक्ति निर्बलों की चिंता नहीं करता। मैं अपने तीखे बाणों से आकाश से तारों को भी गिरा सकता हूँ।
English Commentary
This verse encapsulates the hubris (atigarrva) of Khara. He dismisses the cosmic omens as "weak" ('durbalān'), comparing his relationship with them to a strong man ignoring insignificant opponents. His boast that he can shoot down stars ('tārā api... pātayeyam') with his arrows reveals his delusion of omnipotence. He believes his martial power supersedes the laws of nature. By challenging the heavens, he unwittingly invites the wrath of the one who upholds the cosmic order—Rama. It is a dramatic irony where the reader knows his strength is about to be nullified.

खर का अहंकार यहाँ स्पष्ट होता है। वह दैवीय संकेतों की तुलना 'दुर्बल' व्यक्तियों से करता है और स्वयं को 'बलवान' मानता है। यह 'वीर्यात्' (बल के मद में) कहा गया कथन है। उसका यह दावा कि वह आकाश से तारों को भी गिरा सकता है ('तारा अपि... पातयेयम्'), उसकी आसुरी प्रवृत्ति और अविवेक को दर्शाता है। वह प्रकृति के नियमों को चुनौती दे रहा है। रामायण में अक्सर अधर्मी पात्र अपनी भौतिक शक्ति को दैवीय शक्ति से ऊपर समझते हैं, और यही भूल उनके पतन का कारण बनती है।
