मृत्युम् मरण धर्मेण संक्रुद्धो योजयामि अहम् ।
राघवम् तम् बल उत्सिक्तम् भ्रातरम् च अस्य लक्ष्मणम् ॥३-२३-२१॥
mṛtyum maraṇa dharmeṇa saṃkruddho yojayāmi aham |
rāghavam tam bala utsiktam bhrātaram ca asya lakṣmaṇam ॥3-23-21॥
Translation
Filled with rage, I shall inflict death upon that Raghava (Rama), who is arrogant with power, and his brother Lakshmana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अत्यंत क्रोधित हूँ और अपनी शक्ति के गर्व में चूर उस राघव (राम) और उसके भाई लक्ष्मण को मृत्यु के नियम से जोड़ दूँगा (मार डालूँगा)।
English Commentary
Khara vows to kill the brothers. Ironically, he accuses Rama of being 'bala utsiktam' (puffed up with power), projecting his own flaw onto his adversary. The phrase "mṛtyum maraṇa dharmeṇa... yojayāmi" is a heavy threat, meaning he intends to subject them to the inevitable law of mortality. He sees himself as the agent of death. This highlights his ignorance of Rama's true nature. Khara is driven by 'krodha' (wrath), one of the gateways to hell, believing his anger gives him the power to alter the lifespan of the Avatara.

खर यहाँ अपनी प्रतिज्ञा घोषित करता है। वह राम को 'बल उत्सिक्तम्' (बल के दर्प में चूर) कहता है, जो कि वास्तव में खर का अपना विशेषण है—यह 'परदोष दर्शन' (दूसरों में अपना दोष देखना) का उदाहरण है। वह कहता है कि वह राम और लक्ष्मण को 'मृत्यु' से जोड़ देगा। 'संक्रुद्धो' (अत्यंत क्रोधित) शब्द उसकी मानसिक स्थिति को बताता है; उसका विवेक क्रोध से ढका हुआ है। वह राम को सामान्य मनुष्य और स्वयं को मृत्यु का विधाता मान रहा है, जबकि वास्तविकता इसके ठीक विपरीत होने वाली है।
