प्रहर्षम् अतुलम् लेभे मृत्यु पाश अवपाशिता ।
समेयुः च महात्मानो युद्ध दर्शन कांक्षिणः ॥३-२३-२६॥
praharṣam atulam lebhe mṛtyu pāśa avapāśitā |
sameyuḥ ca mahātmāno yudha darśana kāṃkṣiṇaḥ ॥3-23-26॥
Translation
That army, caught in the noose of death, experienced incomparable joy. Meanwhile, high-souled beings gathered, wishing to witness the battle.

मृत्यु के पाश (फंदे) में फंसी हुई वह सेना अतुलनीय हर्ष को प्राप्त हुई। (उधर) युद्ध देखने की इच्छा रखने वाले महात्मा (ऋषि, देवता आदि) एकत्रित हो गए।
English Commentary
The tragic irony is palpable here. The army rejoices ('praharṣam'), believing in Khara's boast, but the narrator describes them as 'mṛtyu pāśa avapāśitā' (already caught in the noose of death). Their joy is a delusion before destruction. Simultaneously, the scene shifts to the cosmic plane: 'mahātmānaḥ' (great souls/celestials) gather. Their purpose is 'yuddha darśana' (to witness the battle). This elevates the conflict from a local skirmish to a cosmic event of Dharma versus Adharma, watched by the guardians of the universe.
