Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चक्रहस्तो यथा विष्णुः सर्वान् असुर सत्तमान् ।
एतत् च अन्यत् च बहुशो ब्रुवाणाः परम ऋषयः ॥३-२३-२९॥
cakrahasto yathā viṣṇuḥ sarvān asura sattamān |
etat ca anyat ca bahuśo bruvāṇāḥ parama ṛṣayaḥ ॥3-23-29॥
Translation
"Just as Lord Vishnu, wielding the discus (Chakra), destroyed all the foremost Asuras, (so shall Rama destroy these)." Speaking thus and saying many other such things repeatedly, the great Sages conversed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"जैसे चक्रधारी भगवान विष्णु ने समस्त श्रेष्ठ असुरों का संहार किया था (वैसे ही राम इनका वध करेंगे)।" — ऐसा तथा और भी बहुत कुछ वे परम ऋषिगण बार-बार कह रहे थे।
English Commentary
This verse establishes the theological underpinning of the Ramayana. The 'Parama Rishis' (supreme sages), possessing clairvoyance, equate Rama directly with Vishnu holding the Sudarshana Chakra. By invoking the archetype of Vishnu destroying the 'Asura sattamān' (the most powerful Asuras), they are not just hoping for victory; they are stating a cosmic inevitability. The comparison serves to reassure the gathered celestials that despite the overwhelming odds (14,000 against 1), the outcome is preordained because the warrior on the ground is the Preserver of the Universe himself in human guise.

यह श्लोक ऋषियों की दिव्य दृष्टि को दर्शाता है। वे केवल एक वनवासी राजकुमार को युद्ध करते नहीं देख रहे हैं, बल्कि वे राम में साक्षात् 'चक्रहस्तो विष्णुः' (सुदर्शन चक्र धारी विष्णु) का स्वरूप देख रहे हैं। यह उपमा नहीं, बल्कि तत्व का निरूपण है। ऋषिगण जानते हैं कि राम का अवतार दुष्टों के संहार के लिए हुआ है, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे विष्णु ने प्राचीन काल में देवासुर संग्राम में असुरों का नाश किया था। ऋषियों के मुख से निकली यह वाणी युद्ध के परिणाम की भविष्यवाणी करती है—राक्षसों का विनाश सुनिश्चित है। 'असुर सत्तमान्' (शक्तिशाली असुरों) का उल्लेख यह बताता है कि शत्रु कितना भी बलशाली क्यों न हो, ईश्वर के सामने टिक नहीं सकता।
