प्रभिन्नगजसंकाशतोयशोणितधारिणः ।
आकाशम् तत् अनाकाशम् चक्रुः भीम अंबु वाहकाः ॥३-२३-७॥
prabhinnagajasaṃkāśatoyaśoṇitadhāriṇaḥ |
ākāśam tat anākāśam cakruḥ bhīma ambu vāhakāḥ ॥3-23-7॥
Translation
Terrible clouds, resembling rutting elephants in size and shape, rained down blood, covering the sky so completely that it seemed as if the sky no longer existed.

मदमत्त हाथियों के समान विशाल और भयानक बादलों ने आकाश को ढक लिया (अनाकाश कर दिया) और वे रक्त की धारा बरसाने लगे।
English Commentary
The imagery shifts from auditory to visual and meteorological terrors. The clouds are compared to elephants in rut ('prabhinna gaja'), suggesting uncontrollable power and darkness. However, the unnatural phenomenon of raining blood ('shonita') instead of water is a classic literary trope indicating catastrophic war and the collapse of order. The phrase "ākāśam tat anākāśam" (made the sky non-sky) is poetic brilliance, describing a sky so choked with ominous clouds that it loses its essential quality of openness. This 'blood rain' serves as a precursor to the blood that will flow on the battlefield, signifying that nature itself is weeping or bleeding in anticipation of the carnage Rama will unleash upon the aggressors.

यहाँ प्राकृतिक नियमों के उल्लंघन का वर्णन है, जो महाविनाश का पूर्वसंकेत है। बादलों की तुलना 'प्रभिन्न गज' (मदमत्त हाथियों) से की गई है, जो उनकी विशालता और कालेपन को दर्शाती है। सबसे भयानक संकेत यह है कि वे जल के स्थान पर 'शोणित' (रक्त) की वर्षा कर रहे हैं। आकाश का 'अनाकाश' हो जाना अर्थात बादलों का इतना सघन हो जाना कि आसमान दिखाई ही न दे, यह अंधकारमय भविष्य का प्रतीक है। युद्ध से पूर्व ही रक्त की वर्षा होना यह सूचित करता है कि पृथ्वी अब राक्षसों के रक्त से रंजित होने वाली है। यह दैवीय प्रकोप है जो खर को चेतावनी दे रहा है, जिसे वह अपनी मूढ़ता के कारण अनदेखा कर रहा है।
