क्षतज आर्द्र सवर्णाभा संध्या कालम् विना बभौ ।
खरम् च अभिमुखम् नेदुः तदा घोरा मृगाः खगाः ॥३-२३-९॥
kṣataja ārdra savarṇābhā saṃdhyā kālam vinā babhau |
kharam ca abhimukham neduḥ tadā ghorā mṛgāḥ khagāḥ ॥3-23-9॥
Translation
Even though it was not the time for twilight, a twilight glow resembling the color of fresh blood appeared. Terrible beasts and birds cried out facing Khara directly.

संध्या का समय न होने पर भी, रक्त से भीगी हुई लाल आभा वाली संध्या प्रकट हो गई। भयानक पशु और पक्षी खर के सामने आकर बोलने (चिल्लाने) लगे।
English Commentary
The phenomenon of an untimely twilight ('akala sandhya') is traditionally interpreted as a harbinger of doom for rulers. The specific hue described—resembling wet blood ('kṣataja ārdra')—reinforces the theme of slaughter. The text specifically notes that the birds and beasts cried out facing Khara ('abhimukham'). This directionality is crucial; the omens are not general but specifically targeted at the leader of the aggression. Nature marks Khara as the primary victim of the coming battle. प्रकृति के नियमों का पुनः उल्लंघन यहाँ दर्शित है। दिन के समय 'अकाल संध्या' (untimely twilight) का दिखना राजा या सेनापति की मृत्यु का सूचक होता है। उसका रंग 'क्षतज' (घाव से निकले रक्त) जैसा लाल बताया गया है, जो हिंसा का प्रतीक है। महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि पशु-पक्षी 'खरम् अभिमुखम्' (खर की ओर मुख करके) चिल्ला रहे हैं। शकुन शास्त्र में यदि वन्य जीव सेनापति के सामने आकर रोएं या चिल्लाएं, तो यह स्पष्ट रूप से उसी व्यक्ति के विनाश का संकेत है। यह दृश्य खर को व्यक्तिगत रूप से चेतावनी दे रहा है कि वह मृत्यु के मुख में जा रहा है, किन्तु विनाशकाले विपरीत बुद्धि के कारण वह इसे समझ नहीं पा रहा है।
