Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामः प्रदीप्तैर् बहुभिर् वज्रैर् इव महा अचलः ।
स विद्धः क्षतज दिग्धः सर्व गात्रेषु राघवः ॥ ॥३-२५-१४॥
Rāmaḥ pradīptair bahubhir vajrair iva mahā acalaḥ |
Sa viddhaḥ kṣataja digdhaḥ sarva gātreṣu rāghavaḥ ॥3-25-14॥
Translation
Like a great mountain struck by many blazing thunderbolts, Rama appeared. That Raghava was pierced, and his limbs were smeared all over with blood.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे कोई विशाल पर्वत बहुत से जलते हुए वज्रों के प्रहार से आहत हो, वैसे ही श्री राम दिखाई दे रहे थे। वे (शत्रुओं के शस्त्रों से) बिंधे हुए थे और राघव के सभी अंगों पर रक्त (क्षतज) लगा हुआ था।
English Commentary
The imagery shifts to a dramatic and somewhat graphic depiction of the warrior. Rama is compared to a Maha-achala (great mountain) struck by blazing thunderbolts (vajras). This implies that the weapons hitting him were not ordinary arrows but struck with the force of lightning. The result is that he is kshataja digdhah—anointed or smeared with blood. This vulnerability makes his subsequent victory more heroic; he fights not as an untouched god, but as a warrior enduring severe trauma.

युद्ध की वास्तविकता अब स्पष्ट रूप से सामने आती है। राम पूर्णतः घायल हैं। 'क्षतज दिग्धः' का अर्थ है खून से लपटा हुआ। उपमा पुनः पर्वत की है, लेकिन इस बार 'वज्र' (इंद्र का शस्त्र) के प्रहार की बात है। जैसे वज्रपात से पर्वत पर दरारें पड़ती हैं और गेरू आदि धातुएं बह निकलती हैं, वैसे ही राम के शरीर से रक्त बह रहा है। यह दृश्य राम के मानवीय संघर्ष को बढ़ाता है—वे केवल मंत्रबल से नहीं, बल्कि शारीरिक कष्ट सहकर धर्म की रक्षा कर रहे हैं।
