तम् दृष्ट्वा सगुणम् चापम् उद्यम्य खर निःस्वनम् ।
रामस्य अभिमुखम् सूतम् चोद्यताम् इति अचोदयत् ॥३-२५-२॥
tam dṛṣṭvā saguṇam cāpam udyamya khara niḥsvanam |
rāmasya abhimukham sūtam codyatām iti acodayat ॥3-25-2॥
Translation
Seeing him, Khara raised his bow that made a sharp sound and ordered his charioteer, "Drive towards Rama!"

राम को देखकर, खर ने अपना कठोर टंकार करने वाला धनुष उठाया और अपने सारथी को आदेश दिया—"राम की ओर (रथ) बढ़ाओ!"
English Commentary
Khara acts immediately upon seeing Rama. He raises his bow, described as making a harsh sound ('khara niḥsvanam'), mirroring his own name and nature. His command to the charioteer ('sūtam') is direct: "Drive towards Rama" ('rāmasya abhimukham'). This marks the formal commencement of the duel. In chariot warfare, the charioteer's skill is vital, and the commander's order initiates the engagement. Khara singles out Rama, ignoring all else, driven by his vendetta.

शत्रु को देखते ही खर की प्रतिक्रिया एक योद्धा वाली है। उसने तुरंत अपना धनुष उठाया ('चापम् उद्यम्य')। उसके धनुष को 'खर निःस्वनम्' (कठोर शब्द करने वाला) कहा गया है, जो उसके स्वामी के नाम 'खर' के अनुकूल है। उसने सारथी को सीधे राम की ओर आक्रमण करने का आदेश दिया। यहाँ खर का लक्ष्य केवल राम है, वह लक्ष्मण या सीता की ओर ध्यान नहीं दे रहा। यह उसकी एकाग्रता और राम के प्रति उसकी तीव्र घृणा को दर्शाता है। वह स्वयं पहल करता है, जो उसके आक्रामक स्वभाव का परिचायक है।
