Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तेषाम् यातुधानानाम् मध्ये रथः गतः खरः ।
बभूव मध्य ेताराणाम् लोहितांग इव उदितः ॥३-२५-५॥
sa teṣām yātudhānānām madhye rathaḥ gataḥ kharaḥ |
babhūva madhye tārāṇām lohitāṃga iva uditaḥ ॥3-25-5॥
Translation
Khara, seated in his chariot amidst those Yatudhanas (Rakshasas), appeared like the risen Mars (Lohitanga) amidst the stars.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन राक्षसों (यातुधानों) के बीच में रथ पर सवार खर वैसा ही प्रतीत हुआ, जैसे तारों के बीच में उदित हुआ 'लोहितांग' (मंगल ग्रह) दिखाई देता है।
English Commentary
A vivid simile describing Khara's appearance. He is compared to 'Lohitāṅga' (the Red-limbed one, i.e., Mars) rising amongst the stars. Just as Mars is the planet of war, aggression, and is distinctively red and fierce against the backdrop of lesser stars, Khara stands out among his troops. The imagery reinforces his dominance and his intent to spill blood. It is a majestic yet terrifying visual, elevating the antagonist's stature before his eventual fall.

वाल्मीकि जी पुनः खगोलीय उपमा का प्रयोग करते हैं। खर की तुलना 'लोहितांग' (लाल अंगों वाले/मंगल ग्रह) से की गई है। मंगल युद्ध, रक्त और क्रूरता का ग्रह है, और उसका रंग लाल है जो क्रोध का प्रतीक है। जैसे मंगल तारों के बीच सबसे अलग और उग्र दिखता है, वैसे ही खर अपनी सेना के बीच चमक रहा है। यह उपमा खर के विनाशकारी स्वरूप और उसके प्रभाव को रेखांकित करती है। वह अपनी सेना का केंद्र बिंदु है, और उसका उदय (आक्रमण) रक्तपात का संकेत है।
