Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जगराह गिरिशृङ्गाभं परिघं रोमहर्षणम् ।
वेष्टितं काञ्चनैः पट्टैर्देवसैन्याभिमर्दनम् ॥ ॥३-२६-१०॥
Jagrāha giriśṛṅgābhaṃ parighaṃ romaharṣaṇam |
Veṣṭitaṃ kāñcanaiḥ paṭṭairdevasainyābhimardanam ॥3-26-10॥
Translation
He seized a Parigha (iron bludgeon) that resembled a mountain peak and caused one's hair to stand on end (in terror). It was bound with gold bands and was capable of crushing the army of the gods.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(तब दूषण ने) पर्वत के शिखर जैसा विशाल, रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाला (रोमहर्षणम्) एक परिघ (लोहे का भारी मुगदर) उठाया। वह सोने के पत्रों से मढ़ा हुआ था और देवताओं की सेना को कुचलने वाला था।
English Commentary
Deprived of his bow, Dushana resorts to brute force, grabbing a Parigha (iron bludgeon). The text highlights the weapon's terrifying nature—romaharshanam (hair-raising)—and its history as a crusher of divine armies (devasainya-abhimardanam). The contrast is stark: Rama with his precision arrows versus Dushana with a crude, massive weapon of mass destruction. The gold binding (kanchanaih pattaih) suggests that even this brutal instrument is a symbol of royal status and wealth.

जब धनुष कट गया, तो दूषण ने अपनी पाशविक शक्ति का प्रदर्शन करने के लिए 'परिघ' उठाया। परिघ एक प्रकार का भारी मुगदर या लोहे की लाठ होती है। उपमा 'गिरिशृङ्गाभं' (पर्वत शिखर जैसा) उसकी विशालता को दर्शाती है। 'देवसैन्याभिमर्दनम्' विशेषण यह बताता है कि दूषण का अतीत कितना खूनी रहा है—उसने इसी हथियार से देवताओं की सेनाओं को रौंदा था। यह हथियार राक्षसी बल और क्रूरता का प्रतीक है, जो अब श्रीराम की सुकुमारता के विरुद्ध खड़ा है।
