Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कराभ्यां च विकीर्णाभ्यां पपात भुवि दूषणः ।
विषाणाभ्यां विशीर्णाभ्यां मनस्वीव महागजः ॥ ॥३-२६-१५॥
Karābhyāṃ ca vikīrṇābhyāṃ papāta bhuvi dūṣaṇaḥ |
Viṣāṇābhyāṃ viśīrṇābhyāṃ manasvīva mahāgajaḥ ॥3-26-15॥
Translation
With his arms scattered, Dushana fell to the ground like a mighty elephant falls when its tusks are broken off.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपनी दोनों कटी हुई भुजाओं के साथ दूषण पृथ्वी पर वैसे ही गिर पड़ा, जैसे कोई मनस्वी (विशाल/मदमस्त) हाथी अपने दाँत टूट जाने पर गिर पड़ता है।
English Commentary
Following the weapon, the warrior falls. The simile shifts from the weapon to the wielder: Dushana is compared to a Mahagaja (great elephant) and his arms to tusks (vishana). Just as an elephant is humbled and defeated when its tusks are shorn, Dushana lies defeated. The use of manasvi implies a noble or spirited beast, granting Dushana a dignified, albeit brutal, death appropriate for a commander.
हिंदी टीका
दूषण का अंत हो गया। भुजाओं की तुलना हाथी के दाँतों (विषाण) से की गई है। हाथी का सारा बल और शोभा उसके दाँतों में होती है; उनके बिना वह असहाय है। 'मनस्वी' शब्द यहाँ हाथी के लिए प्रयुक्त है, जिसका अर्थ है अभिमानी या विशालकाय। दूषण का विशाल शरीर पृथ्वी पर गिरने से युद्धभूमि कांप उठी होगी। इस श्लोक के साथ ही 'खर-दूषण' जोड़ी में से एक (दूषण) का अंत हो जाता है।
